New Chronic Non Cancer Pain Tool Available Mid-October

The Chronic Non Cancer Pain (CNCP) tool is designed to assist primary care clinicians with the assessment and management of adult CNCP, through a multidimensional and multidisciplinary approach.

Clinical best practices and recommendations that follow the Centre for Effective Practice (CEP) Management of Chronic Non Cancer Pain Toolkit have been incorporated into the template, which is divided into the following sections: Baseline Assessment, Ongoing Assessment, Non-Pharmacological Therapy, Non-Opioid Medications, Opioid Medications and Intervention Management and Referral. This approach allows clinicians to conduct a complete assessment and provide a tailored management plan that incorporates the patient’s goals, while adhering to current best practices in providing improved CNCP management overall.

Having worked with the Centre for Effective Practice to build the clinical content, I believe the EMR version, developed in partnership with the CEP and eCE will help improve the care provided to patients’ with chronic pain by making it easier for you to systematically identify, apply and monitor appropriate evidenced-based therapies, and help navigate the challenging issues around the use of opioids.
